Togo hikes water tariff by 20 percent

The National Water Company of Togo (RNET), has raised water tariff in the country by 20 percent with effect from this month.

The State-owned Company said in a statement Wednesday in Lome, the increase followed "financial imbalance" caused by treasury problems.

The new rates are as follows:

- Low cost: 0 to 10 cubic meters /month: 90 CFA francs /m3
- Category 2: 11 to 30 m3 /month: 380 FCFA /m3
- Category 3: 31 to 50 m3 /month: 400 FCFA /m3
- Category 4: 51 to 100 m3 /month: 425 FCFA /m3
- Over 100 m3 per month: 500 FCFA /m3.

The old prices were 165 FCFA, 310 FCFA, 335 FCFA and 335 FCFA, respectively. (700 CFA francs=1USD).
