Authorities in The Togo have allocated
109.7 million CFA francs to the National Independent Election
Commission to conduct early parliamentary elections set for 10
and 24 March 2002.
In a broadcast over national radio Sunday, the government said
the new funding brings to 334.8 million francs its total
allocation toward the electoral process.
The additional contribution and the signing of a 1.23 billion CFA
francs financing agreement with the European Union illustrate the
government's firm determination to have the NIEC organise the
next elections in accordance with its new schedule, the radio
reported.
The early parliamentary elections were postponed last October due
to insufficient funds to prepare for the process.
