Andre Kuevi, a member of Togo's opposition Union of Forces for Change (UFC), has been admitted to a local hospital for treatment after being attacked by unidentified persons late Sunday, a party official said Monday.

Kuevi is also a member of Togo's National Electoral Committee.

Jean-Pierre Fabre, UFC Secretary General said Kuevi was assaulted while trying to check into an hotel in Kara, some 400-km north of Lome.

He was admitted to the Kara regional hospital after losing "too much blood," Fabre said.

Kuevi was said to be on tour of the region to set up local electoral Committees.
