GOALS AND OBJECTIVES

The C.T.C has the following goals and objectives :

  • To regroup all of the Togolese residing in Canada ;
  • To maintain and reinforce solidarity and brotherhood between them ;
  • To help with their integration into Canada ;
  • To watch after their interests in regards to provincial and federal athorities ;
  • To contribute to a better representation of Togo in Canadian society ;
  • To contribute to the economic social, cultural and political development of Canada ;
  • Be vigilant for the respect of democracy and human rights in Togo ;
  • To contribute to the economic, social, cultural and political development of Togo ;
  • To create and maintain solidarity with all organizations which have the same goals and objectives in their principles and practices, as those of the CTC

MEMBERS OF THE COLLECTIVE FOR DEMOCRACY IN TOGO (CDT)

The Collective is born of existing solidarities amongst the Togolese people, the CTC, N.G.O.s, syndicated solidarity organizations.
The Collective is comprised of the following organizations :
- League of Rights and Freedoms
- Alternatives
- The Champlain Teaching Syndicat, having ties with the Togolese Federation of UNESCO Associations and Clubs Canadian University Services Overseas (CUSO) Federation of Quebec Workers
- Canadian University Services (CUSO)
- Fédération des Travailleurs du Québec (FTQ)
- Confederation of National Syndicates (CSN)
- Quebec Association of Organizations for International Cooperation (AQOCI)
- Popular Solidarity- Quebec (SPQ)
- International Centre of Workers Solidarity (CISO)
 

PARTNERS

Rights and Democracy, (The International Center of Human Rights and Democratic Development) and the Center of International Study and Cooperation which financed the Collective for a support project of the democratization process in Togo.
 

The CTC is also a member of the Togolese Diaspora for democracy (DIASTODE) and assumes the Permanent Secretariat.

For concertation and decisions concerning the events in Togo, the CTC equally forms a coalition with :

- The Togolese Human Rights League (LTDH)
- The League for the Defence of Human Rights in Benin (LDH)
- The International Federation of Leagues for Human Rights (FIDH)
- Amnesty International
 

ACTIVITIES / ACTIONS

- Participation in International Days organized yearly by the Canadian government
- Organization of social and cultural days: information kiosques; expositions of Togolese art; public conferences; presentations of traditional costumes; social dances and Togolese cuisine
Organization of an annuel picnic (reunion) and soccer tournament between the sections of the CTC
- Organization of the year-end celebration and gift distribution by a Togolese Father Christmas to the children of members
- Welcome and integration of our members to Canada
- Information concerning admissions into schools and universities
- Increasing public awareness to the Togolese cause
- Development of solidarity between Canada, Quebec and Togo
- Fundraising and financial support to Togolese refugees in Benin and Ghana
- Increasing awareness of the Canadian governement to the Togolese case and Togolese refugees
- Support to Togolese refugees in Canada
- Visits of leaders of civil society to Canada
- Sending electoral observers to Togo during elections
- Organization of conferences on democracy and human rights in Togo
- Increasing public awareness via information kiosques, publications and media (radio, press and television)
- Lobbying Canadian and Quebecois authorities and those of the United Nations, the European Union, the Jimmy Carter Centre, the Embassies, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and other concerned ministries
 

PROJECTS

- Realization of several humanitarian projects for primary and secondary schools, the University of Benin, to villages, to refugees in Benin and Ghana and to hospitals.
- Teaching the national Togolese languages to children born in Canada.
- Formation of a traditionals togoleses dances group and a theatre group (Sketch).
- Reinforcement of our contribution to the welfare of the the Togolese population.
- Visibility at the ports of entry into Canada.
- Joining with pressure groups for human rights.
